WindowArt

a TeenARTS project

Empty storefront windows on the Eugene downtown mall were filled with canvas murals in July, 2001 during WindowArt. Blending the community's interests in safety issues, education, youth employment, and the arts, the project involved both professional artists and youth in the creation of the canvas murals.

The artists involved were Anthony Vanderford and Kari Johnson. Several youth were selected through Looking Glass Job Center to work with the artists. The youth were paid a stipend for their participation in the project.

The murals depict the role of people and business in downtown. Two hung at the former Rosewater's Deli, 44 West Broadway. A third mural was located at the former Good Monkey's Gallery, 44 West Broadway.

Update, January 2004: One of the murals created with Kari Johnson is on display at the former Backstage Dancewear location on West Broadway.
