"Youth in Action" - Territorial Park Sculpture

a TeenARTS project

Artist team: Annette Rothweiler, Alex Lanham, Carolyn Osborne-Sommer

Phase I: Artists worked with 50 youth in grades 3-8 after-school to produce drawings and paintings based on the the theme "Youth in Action." There was also a call to high school students for design ideas.

Phase II: Artists and teens designed the sculpture using ideas and images from phase I.

Phase III: During summer 2002 the artists and teens guided youth in grades K-5 in the creation of the tile and mosaic pieces for the sculpture. The teens assisted in firing the clay pieces.

Phase IV: Also during summer 2002 the teens and artists worked to create the other components of the artwork.

Phase V: In fall 2002 the sculpture was completed and installed at Territorial Park. The sculpture was dedicated on November 16, 2002.

The project engaged 70-100 Fern Ridge area youth!
