Frobearilla

a TeenARTS project

Baking bread in the
earthen oven.
In 1998, sculptor Kiko Denzer led six young men in sculpting an earthen oven in Junction City. Louisa Lindsay-Sprouse, director of the Young Writers Association, helped the youth respond to the project through creative writing.
Untitled
by Dave W.

Mother nature's gift of mud put to use, as I gather buckets of the brown goo.

Sprinkling of water as the minutes turn to hours.

A transformation takes place. Placing handfuls at a time on a soon-to-be "beast of nature".

Ponder
by Brandon S.

As I sit here and ponder why we made this
thing-Mcbober,
Maybe Char might not use it,
Maybe every once in a while.
Easy to build
I sit and ponder why we built this thingy-Mcbober
When I leave
and the next group comes in,
we all can be remembered.
Maybe they'll ask who built that thing out there
and Char will tell them the story of how it got made.

My Name
by Nick P.

Today my name is the earth,
I sing with the birds in the cold morning,
I make the wave that the surfers swim.
I love the feeling of the people on my flesh that tickles my great soft soul.

Kiko is the Man
by John L.

Me and Kiko stomp on the dirt that went on the project. Me and him stomp on it for about 30 minutes and that got really tiring and I wanted to stop.
But Kiko said,
"Let's keep stomping!"
And I said,
"Okay."
And we keep stomping and I said in my head this is what everybody will remember me by, as the stomper, but Kiko was the guy that kept me going, and made me believe that I could do it if you just put your mind to it.
