This ceramic tile mural was created for the lobby of Elmira Elementary. The project ran February 2002 to June 2002. Artists Bets Cole, Karen Russo, Kay Irish and Rosemary Villani worked with nearly 300 youth from Elmira Elementary along with 6 local teens. The tiles take inspiration from the concepts of community quilting and artist M.C. Escher's designs.
The project was developed by Symphony in Clay in partnership with Elmira Elementary, Fern Ridge School District, Local Clay, and YouthArts, a program of Lane Arts Council.
The teen participation was developed in partnership with Symphony in Clay, Local Clay, Elmira Elementary, Fern Ridge School District, Fern Ridge 21st Century Community Learning Center, and YouthArts, a program of Lane Arts Council.
