The story of the McKenzie River is captured in this public artwork created by McKenzie youth! Seven teens and artists Jim Denney and Bob Forcinio finished the McKenzie River Arrival and Departure waterworks entrance sculpture in July 2002. The work is located at the McKenzie River Ranger District, 57600 McKenzie Hwy. In June 2002 the artists and youth began carving fish and installing the waterworks, walkway and landscaping. Field trips and presentations allowed the teens to collect field data and draw sketches. Using rocks, vegetation, concrete and alabaster, they created a sculpture that represents the McKenzie River. YouthArts, a program of Lane Arts Council, developed this project in partnership with McKenzie Arts Forum, McKenzie River Ranger District, McKenzie 21st Century Community Learning Center, McKenzie Watershed Council, and Lane Workforce Partnership-Work Investment Act.
