YouthArts

YouthArts, a program of Lane Arts Council, connects artists with young people and their families and teachers in schools and communities throughout Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County. Recognizing that the arts consistently rate as one of our highest educational priorities, for over 30 years YouthArts has offered accessible arts to tomorrow's community members, teachers, artists, audiences and legislators.

Since 1978, YouthArts has engaged young people and educators in high-quality arts experiences and enrichment activities guided by professional visual, performing and literary artists. Lane Arts Council programs continue to bring the arts to thousands of young people each year.

Lane Arts Council’s YouthArts programs in 2010-2011 include in-school Artist Residencies and Performance Assemblies in Lane County public and private schools and after-school programs in partnership with Lane ESD with the Junction City, Oakridge and McKenzie school districts.

OAC grant helps EcoArts plan for second year.

Lane Arts Council appreciates a $7,500 Arts Learning grant from the Oregon Arts Commission to support EcoArts, an artist-in-residence program connecting art and ecology. Artists, classroom teachers and ecologists co-plan school residencies to address ecological change.

The grant helps begin a second year for EcoArts. In its pilot year, 2009-2010, EcoArts Artist Residencies were implemented in five Lane County schools.

Collaboration with Camas Educational Network (CEN) and ecologist Jason Blazar included consultation, an ecological assessment of each school, and field walks with students.

The five lead artists for the pilot year were: Betsy Wolfston (Creslane), Janas Durkee (Latham), Karen Moeller (Applegate), Kay Irish (Fairfield) and

Liz Casey (Pleasant Hill.) The first year was supported by school fees and

matching funds from a $15,000 grant from the Elizabeth S. Holden Fund of

the Oregon Community Foundation.

Our deep appreciation to those who help bring artists into the schools for young learners.
