Shanti Shivani — World Music & Song

  • Shanti Shivani has been teaching internationally at conferences, retreat centers, Ayurvedic centers, liberal arts colleges, schools, hospitals and birthing homes and privately since 1986. Shanti has performed in concert and at festivals such as the World Sacred Music Festival in Los Angeles since 1989. She has several albums to her credit and has been recording as a solo artist and in collaboration with many World Music artists since 1997. Currently residing in Eugene, Shanti was born in Germany and lived for eight years in India. She also studied with renowned Western musicians and sound teachers such as Fabien Maman of the Academy of Sound, Color and Movement. Frédérick Leboyer, the European Father of Natural Childbirth, with whom she collaborated for 8 years, emphasized the connection between voice, breath and movement.
  • She teaches Classical vocal music from Northern India (ragas) and songs and chants from different traditions as well as improvisational music. Shanti is a sound healer as well as a voice teacher who sees working with the voice as a wholistic approach to healing and opening up to our fullest potential. She brings a wealth of vocal, meditative and movement experience to her classes and performances and has taught people between the ages of 3 and 86 years. Professionally, she teaches Nada Yoga - the Yoga of Sound, Dhrupad vocal music from Northern India and gives one-on-one sound healing sessions. During a residency she guides students in learning about sound, voice and songs of many world traditions as well as North Indian rhythms.
