Leanne Mizzoni — Creative Movement and Dance
- Leanne Mizzoni is a native of the Washington DC area, where trained with Metropolitan Ballet and Virginia Ballet Company with Ballet Russes dancers Oleg Tupine and Tania Rousseau. Leanne has also studied at Virginia School of the Arts and Joffrey Ballet. She holds a BFA in Dance Pedagogy (cum laude). Leanne taught professionally for seven years in Connecticut and Virginia and was the children's assistant for Kirk Peterson's production of Nutcracker with American Ballet Theatre. While in Connecticut Leanne had the opportunity to teach movement and dance to many children in the local elementary schools. In 2010 Leanne received a Lane County Cultural Coalition Grant to teach underprivileged children in the Mapleton School the art of movement and the history behind it. Leanne also performs with Ballet Fantastique as a Soloist.
- Students during a residency will learn it means to dance and will be able to enjoy and experience the art of movement and physical expressive skills. Leanne passionately share her love and experience with children who may not normally be able to learn dance. She teaches students how to use their body in different ways and how to respond to different types of music and rhythms. Not only will the students experience creative movment and learn some dance fundamentals, they will also learn background and the history behind it and how various forms have evolved through different cultures.
- "I can say Leanne's teaching was the best dance instruction I've ever seen. Her capacity to grab the interest of tired, squirrelly, and diverse children of mixed age groups was evident as we watched those students become mesmerized by the information and of the practice in learning dance." Lauren Hesse, Mapleton Coordinator
- Leanne Mizzoni is a new Resident Artist in 2010
