May 15, 2006: Creative Conversation

on the City of Eugene Cultural Plan

What should be the City of Eugene's priorities for the arts community?

Come to the next Creative Conversation meeting, May 15, 5:15-7:15, in the Atrium Building, Sloat Conference room, 99 West 10th (at Olive St.) hosted by Lane Arts Council. All are welcome.

At the April 21 Creative Conversation, hosted by the Lane Community College Division of the Arts, Mayor Kitty Piercy and Interim Cultural Services Director Laura Niles presented to members of the arts community about the City's Cultural Policy Review process: "The City of Eugene is convening a process to look at the needs of arts and cultural organizations in Eugene to develop an action-oriented arts and cultural plan that focuses primarily on downtown Eugene."

During the facilitated discussion period that followed, community members and arts organization representatives agreed that the next step in responding to the Cultural Policy Review should be to work together to develop a statement of priorities that can be collaboratively promoted by the arts community for adoption by the City's official process.

Please attend the May 15 meeting if you wish to participate in creating this statement!

ABOUT CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS

The April 21 meeting marks the third in a series of regional Creative Conversations exploring common interests and concerns for the arts in our community. Creative Conversations began as an initiative of Americans for the Arts, the national arts advocacy organization. In the Eugene area, interested community members and representatives from more than thirty local arts organizations have participated in Creative Conversations. Previous Conversations have focused on sharing the arts with the widest possible audience, advocating for the arts in our community, tackling barriers to collaboration, and establishing a concrete action plan for future work.

Past Creative Conversations have been supported by: Lane Arts Council; City of Eugene Cultural Services/Hult Center; DIVA; University of Oregon Cultural Forum.
